Brown Bear Baby Quilt

The day I delivered Hailey’s Monkey Quilt, Jim commented that he should have asked me to make a baby quilt for one of his coworkers.  I just laughed, since it was already on my list.  In fact I started it that night.

I had this fun charm pack that reminded me of the Bearnstein Bears.  And I had some browns left over from Hailey’s Monkey Quilt.  The little blue squares, and the binding, are denim I inherited from mom.

I created 4-patches and bordered them with the dark brown and blue cornerstones.  there are a total of six 4-patches, 3 on each side.  There were only enough left for 1 1/2 4-patches.  So I made three 2-patches and bordered them the same.

Quilting was simple, just going 1/4″ in from each of the blocks and around the outside.

Jim’s coworker is former Navy, and I know she has a name, but I can’t think of her as anything other than HM1.  She’s a tough woman, and baby definitely came as a surprise.  When the quilt was done, I went with Jim to give it to her.  She got a little emotional, was tickled pink, and said they’d just finished decorating the baby’s room, had done it in blues and browns and bears.  How cool is that?

The baby I made this for is now 18 months old. His mom says he LOVES his quilt, and she uses it to teach him colors and shapes and names of things. How cool is that?
